‘Hevva’ was the call used by the huer who was employed to spot shoals of sardines, and direct the fishermen in their boats when fish were sighted.

Engrained into the Cornish way of life for centuries, the fishing industry is steeped in tradition.

Sardines, or pilchards as they were called in Cornwall, were traditionally packed into salted wooden barrels for storage.
